Apparently, the CEO of the fastest growing agency thinks so.
As you recall, this last Friday, Phil Hall wrote a piece here titled, “Thou Shalt Happily and Shamelessly Promote Thyself!” Hmmmmm... I wouldn’t characterize that as totally aligned with the spirit of Strumpette. But we love Phil dearly and gave it a pass.
That said, it did make me a little sensitive to the topic. Then yesterday I got one of those regular blast email releases from Ronn Torossian’s firm announcing that O’Dwyer’s had named 5W the fastest growing independent agency 3 years in a row. Of course, connecting the dots, I remembered our recent article, “PR Firm Cashes in On Hot Girl-on-Girl Action.” Well, hell! Who wouldn't grow fast?!
Anyway, we subsequently wrote a little lampoon. It's a satire of Ronn's firm announcing themselves as their own agency of record. We shared it with Ronn for comments. Comment he did. Ronn’s threatened to sue us for “slander.” He said, we’d “need to spend thousands and thousands of dollars defending it.” In Ronn’s words, “And I'll sue you just for fun... put a lien on your home... I'll enjoy spending the money just to make you squirm...” He added, “I could care less about spending $100K just to get you... May not be libel... but I have the money to spend.”
Well, in that case... hell... this could become a running series! So without further ado... here's what has Ronn's short hairs in a twist.

5W Announces AOR Relationship with GGW's Agency
New York, NY, March 7 /PRNewsSpreader/ -- 5W, the 21st largest independent PR firm in the U.S., today announced 5W Public Relations as its agency of record. 5WPR is also the Agency of Record for the Girls Gone Wild (GGW) porn series.
"I've been working with 5WPR for some time and I couldn't be more pleased," said Ronn Torossian, President & CEO of 5W. "Representing role models such as Pamela Anderson, Snoop Dogg, and Lil' Kim... 5WPR's client roster provides a certain notorious cachet other firms can't match. And now with the addition of pornographer Joe Francis, we saw some real synergies. If 5W can provide marketing support for GGW... and improve their 'position' with today's youth... they can do me."
5W will provide marketing communications support for the 5WPR brand. This includes blast spam emails and a whole lotta column items that mention Ronn.
This relationship makes 5W the agency's primary client and arguably its largest account.
ABOUT 5W PUBLIC RELATIONS
Headquartered in New York, 5W Public Relations is the nation's fastest growing independent PR firm for the past three years. But taking clients like GGW, any wonder. Described by a leading PR trade magazine as "aggressive in a way that clearly resonates with clients looking for a firm staffed with type A-plus personalities," 5W is making a name for itself as being unburdened by traditional PR Industry scruples.

Now for all you looking for the BIG FIGHT, don't get you hopes up. It would make for great Strumpette copy but frivolous lawsuits aren't something judges much care for. Maybe next time.
One last thought: Technically speaking, is it even possbile to defame a PR guy who helps market porn to youth?
UPDATE 03-08-07: Just got an email from Ronn. He promises to file a slapp suit within 72 hours. I responded that since we published the story, we’ve gotten another lead about Ronn. That said, I am reluctant to do more than one Torossian story a week. So as a practical matter, I asked Ronn if he could please move his frivolous claim until the week of the 18th. :)
Also, apparently, he’s retaliated by publishing our webmaster’s contact info on his blog. He also says that he’s sent that info “to the CEOs of every PR firm in the U.S.”
Ya know… ya just can’t find many firms that practice PR that aggressively.
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., March 6 /PRNewsSpreader/ -- MWW Group, one of the nation's highest billing PR and surreptitious marketing firms, today announced that it is launching a campaign to cash in on all the present hype around the "green" movement. The program, "Appear Green, Make Cash" is a plan to pay lip service to reducing waste, conserving energy and becoming environmentally conscious, all the way to the bank.
"This year marks our 20th anniversary and we're celebrating our success by giving back to the planet," said Michael W. Kempner, president and CEO of MWW Group, holding back a snicker. Recomposing himself, with a total straight face Kempner added: "We're doing our part in the effort to fight global warming, preserve natural resources and help create energy independence for our country. This isn't just about the critical issue of global warming; it's also about energy independence, which in the end has a dramatic impact on our economy and our national security."
The firm is instituting a number of minor administrative "protocols" concerning energy use and environmental responsibility. Among the new "policies," MWW Group will now require that all offices recycle pop cans, plastic and glass bottles. The agency will continue to recycle the newspapers received by its offices. The firm is also changing all its light bulbs to fluorescent if it can find any that aren't already.
"Doing our small part to fight climate change doesn't take a lot of effort," Kempner said. "It just takes a willingness to do the simple things like turning off the lights at the end of the day."
Bottom line: These incidental and meaningless efforts could mean big dollars for the firm. Through its corporate social responsibility and sustainable technologies practices, MWW Group will ratchet up its efforts to sell, create and implement programs for companies that appear to promote and create green technologies.
"I'm also pleased and excited to help launch corporate social responsibility and sustainable technology campaigns for the growing number of clients who share our commitment to make a positive contribution through green programs and technologies," Kempner said.

On Thursday, March 8, 2007 at 7:41 AM, Ronn Torossian, President and CEO of 5WPR, emphatically promised that he was going to sue us. No real reason, he was just irritated by our teasing him about getting in bed with pornographer Joe Francis. Anyway, Ronn gave his obscenity-laced word that we'd see the complaint in 72 hours. It's now late by
