As a South African I am quite surprised and a bit offended by this piece of satire. It feels unfair to Nelson Mandela to be compared with such an vapid, self obsessed rich kid, who in spite of everything at her disposal contributes nothing to humanity. (I don’t think that we can count her ‘music’ as a contribution.)
I would have recommended Paris be compared with some of SA's other less salubrious politicians and influencers who have spent time in prison such as Mr Yengeni, who after his suprisingly short stay in prison for corruption, was welcome back into the political fold with dancing and singing... or maybe convicted fraudster Shabir Shaik who has had a rather 'soft' time of it - spending most of his prison time in hospital with 'anxiety' complications. I realize that this was probably the point of the piece but Madiba just seems to good for this kind of comparison. (But maybe I am being precious.)
I'm sorry Sarah. I needed something genuine to show just how insipid all the Paris celebrity is. I absolutely did not mean any offense whatsoever.
Please accept my apology. - Amanda Add Comment
