Due to a regrettable editing error, we recently ran an article that said comedian Bill Murray had taken the Office of President of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). That was incorrect. Last week, William M. Murray officially assumed the role as president and chief operating officer of PRSA. William M. Murray (not William J.) now serves as the top staff executive of the world’s largest organization for public relations professionals.
An association executive with more than 20 years of experience, Murray was executive vice president and co-chief operating officer of the Motion Picture Association, the international trade association representing the international interests of the major Hollywood studios. Most recently, he served as a senior fellow at the USC Center for the Digital Future, and president of William Murray & Associates, a media and entertainment policy consulting firm.
“We are pleased to welcome an association executive with Bill’s experience and accomplishments to PRSA,” said Cheryl Procter-Rogers, APR, Fellow PRSA, the Society’s chair and CEO. "What an incredible Cinderella story! This unknown, comes out of nowhere, to lead the pack here at Augusta."
In his new role, Murray will work closely with the 2007 PRSA board of directors, volunteer leadership and staff to carry forward the Society’s strategic initiatives and its mission of advancing the public relations profession and the professional.
Murray said, "The crowd is on its feet here. He's a Cinderella boy. Tears in his eyes, I guess, as he lines up this last shot. He's got about 195 yards left, and he's got what looks like about an 8 iron. This crowd has gone dead silent... Cinderella story, out of nowhere, former greenskeeper, now, about to become the Masters Champion. It looks like... It's in the hole! It's in the hole!"
