Leading Industry Expert Predicts Dangerous Shift in Power
Shock waves were felt throughout the PR industry this week as an announcement was made that has broad implications about PR's future on the Internet. A simple invention has one leading expert predicting that the ranks of PR bloggers could more than quadruple in the next year.
According to the Director of Media Strategies at Converseon, Constantin Basturea, "There are presently about 555 PR blog feeds that includes personal, consultants and corporate blogs from 17 countries."
That number is expected to top 2,000 by the end of '07. Why the dramatic increase? A North Carolina scientist has developed a way to add caffeine to baked goods. Buzz DonutsTM are the brainchild of Dr. Robert Bohannon, a molecular scientist living in Durham. Dr. Bohannon has developed a way to mask the normal bitterness of caffeine so that it can be used in food products.
Martin Turnbull, famed PR-industry business analyst from the Kepler School of Management, commented:
"Up to now, the 'buzzed donuts' that compose the PR blogosphere have been totally natural. Parmet, Thornley, French, Ochman, Gomes... that's genetic. Now however, these 'buzzed donuts' can be mass produced in the lab. This is more than just and ethical problem. It radically shifts the balance of power geopolitically. If this technology got into the wrong hands, say a demagogue like Jeff Jarvis for instance, the damage it might cause is unimaginable."
EDITOR'S NOTE: Rubel's MicroPersuasion is a gadget blog. Also, Basturea's list does not include Strumpette.
