INDIANAPOLIS -- Sharon L. Smith, president of Maverick Public Relations, recently received accreditation in public relations from the Public Relations Society of America.

Smith is on the board of directors for the Noblesville Chamber of Commerce. Before opening Maverick Public Relations, she was the public relations coordinator for Riverview Hospital. Previously, she was marketing director for Topics Newspapers and director of Noblesville Main Street. She is a graduate of the Hamilton County Leadership Academy and was given its Outstanding Alumni Award in 2004.

According to the PRSA Web site, accreditation is a mark of distinction earned by public relations professionals who demonstrate their commitment to the profession and devotion to ethical practice within the business. Those selected must have a broad knowledge of their field, showing proof of strong strategic and professional judgment skills developed during their professional lifetime.

Of the more than 1 million communications professionals nationwide, Smith joins approximately 4,200 professionals who have earned the accreditation in the United States.
