Championship PR Midget Toss Sets RecordPosted by Amanda Chapel
CHICAGO - A new record has been set in Championship PR Midget Toss. Sunday, in front of crowd of more than 1,300 web fans, Edelman's Senior Counselor for Online Communications, Phil Gomes, sailed 9' 4" to shatter the previous record of 7' 9" held by Jeremy Pepper of Weber Shandwick. Known widely today throughout the PR Industry, the event was first created to give some deserved recognition to the high-flying high-profile little people in PR. These are the PR bloggers that are neither on the "A" list or among the "Nobodies," but still have been able to "seize the microphone" with very little consideration given to experience, creativity or even common sense. Event organizer Amanda Chapel said, "Imagine playing second fiddle to Rubel. Yiish. Gomes must be borderline suicidal. I think that's what really gave him the edge. Sure, he's a lightweight but frankly, I think the judges felt bad for him." The other participants in the event included: Stephen Davies who was tossed 5' 2"; Mike Krempasky was tossed 6' 2"; Robert French, a close second, was tossed 7' 5"; David Parmet was tossed out the window; and rumor has it that Kami Huyse, a true sport, was tossed a few times in the cloakroom. This year there were two disqualifications. Gregory Kohs was disqualified for just being utzy and harassing the judges. Lee Hopkins was disqualified for being just plain goofy. There was one injury. Strongman Boris Romanoff on attempting to lift Susan Getgood was felled as his back went out. Boris was taken away by ambulance and is now being treated at Northwestern Hospital. Although serious, a full recovery is expected in a few months. On the record, Gomes said,"[Some] might take a dim view of the humor and freewheelingly gonzoid writing style of [my] site. That's why [I] have taken to calling it a 'perso-professional' website. We're quickly getting to the point where the age of the perpetually buttoned-up, superlative-spouting flack is pretty much over save for seriously blue-chip enterprises." Edelman is the world's largest independent public relations firm representing a diverse portfolio of blue-chip companies.
EDITOR'S NOTES The World Record in Midget Tossing is held by Jimmy Leonard having tossed Lenny the Giant (4'4" and 98 pounds) 11 feet 5 inches. The record was made during the British Dwarf Tossing Championships 2002. Bill 97 2003 bans dwarf tossing in Ontario Canada and makes it an offence to engage in dwarf tossing. "No person shall organize a dwarf tossing event or engage in dwarf tossing. A person who contravenes subsection (1) is guilty of an offence and on conviction is liable to a fine of not more than $5,000 or to imprisonment for a term of not more than six months, or to both." Still, I did kinda like being called "utzy". That is actually pretty close to the mark. Maybe you're not as harmful as I used to think.
No Greg. It is not a result of internal clicks. Last month we averaged 1,930 visits a day. We have a great readership for just starting. Our readerships bests 98 percent of the 450 other PR bloggers. That's fact.
